Our Shell to Shelby Journey

Jackson loved cars when he was a toddler. You should have seen him at the Peterson Car Museum – he thought the crash test dummy symbol was a “Beamer, Beamer, Beamer!” He’s paying attention again, now that he will get his learners permit this year.

Since college, I’ve wanted to build a kit Shelby Cobra. In fact, I met Carroll Shelby at a motorsports event in 1993. He left his headlights on and asked my GT Motorsports team to jump start his car.

Carroll Shelby autographed hat. #42 refers to the Ga Tech Motorsports car from 1993. Anyone wondering about Carroll Shelby and Dodge?

Shelby Dodge designs.

Formula SAE Competition 1993, that’s me under the ‘f’.

Jackson learned about the guy who traded a paperclip up to a house and another guy who traded Apple Airpods up to an airplane. So, we decided to put it all together: Shell 2 Shelby!

We hope you enjoy our journey, Ian

About Us

Ian: I’m a left-brained, nuts-and-bolts guy who works in movies as a stunt coordinator. At 50, I’m due for my mid-life crisis!!!, so follow along for some emotional-crisis decision-making.

Jackson: the brains and good looks of this operation. I need to learn to drive this year so let’s get me a car that makes me look as good as I make it perform.

  1. Hi, Ian. I left you a commercial grade dishwasher on your Facebook post. It needs new hoses, but there is a market for them. Do you want it?

    1. June, this is amazing. Seems like we’re skipping a few steps as our first trade. We’ll let you choose which shell you want!! Somebody just offered a comic book collection, so Jackson will likely go for that. But it is a competition!!

  2. This looks like a ton of fun! I didn’t know this was a Thing until it was featured in an episode of Great North recently. Good luck to you both! PS. Ian, I believe you’re 50 (bc I know how old I am!), but there’s NO WAY Jackson is driving age!! Wow.

    1. Hey Nova! Yup, he can get his learner’s permit in August. Doesn’t really have a desire to drive yet because he has a skateboard, a bike, the bus and the train. But I see it as a right of passage, even though insurance will be rough. His first ride will be the ‘93 Accord in the driveway with 250,000+ miles, the one with the shimmy that’s embarrassing to be picked up in from school, hee hee.
